Lesson 2

Welcome to the second part of my fingerpicking ukulele mini-course.

In this email we’ll be adding to the examples we went over in the first part – instead of just going up the strings, we’ll be going up and down.

This is slightly tricker as you don’t have as much time to prepare your fingers – so you have to be accurate straight away.

Here’s example 3 which is just a C chord held down.

And here’s a video showing how I play it:

Example 3

Once you’ve got the hang of that, try using this pattern with the chord progression we had in the first email.

Example 4

You might recognise this picking pattern from Smile by Stephin Merritt. You can find the tab for that here. Try out chord progressions you’re familiar with using this pattern.

If you’re enjoying this course, check out my other ebooks at How To Play Ukulele. Here’s what people have being saying about How to Play Ukulele Chord Progressions:

“I started using the book – it’s great!!! This is really a helpful and friendly guide :)”

Jen Kwok

“I am really glad I bought your chord progression theory book. You did just a great job! I am taking piano from my daughter’s classical teacher. He is great but somewhat hardcore classical. He tried to explain some of the theory to me, but I think that your book is way more accessible and directly applicable. And this comes from me, someone who has taken theory classes in the past!”

Good luck getting this under your fingers. Next time we’ll be covering a tougher pattern but one that has a really distinctive Hawaiian flavour to it.
